Daniel Saunion flattened himself against the wall of the gorge, ducking his head into his shoulder. He could hardly hear anything, and the dust was so thick that opening his eyes would be no use, and so he was happy enough to have an excuse to shut the world out.
Somewhere above his head, Daniel felt a deep vibration from the wall, and flung himself sideways. A boulder slammed into where he'd just been standing, scraping against his leg. He scrambled upright, watching it tumble down the slope. By the time it had come to rest at the bottom, he realised that the noise had stopped.
"---ere?" said someone over the radio. Daniel pressed his earpiece in further - it was incredible that anyone else was still alive.
"Where -" he coughed in reply, and then swallowed. "Where are you?"
All around him, beds of fresh scree and loose rocks clung onto the slope. The landscape had changed so much that any landmarks were obscured. Daniel's gaze skipped over Catbite Gorge, looking for a signal amongst the visual noise, He quickly discovered a small splash of red, and a hand waving painfully.
