All the mammals living on
Earth today can be divided
up into three groups. There
are the marsupials (such as
kangaroos) where the young
are reared in pouches. There
are the rare monotreme
(such as platypuses) which
lay eggs. Finally, there are
the placental mammals,
which include species like
humans where the young
are nourished through
pregnancy within the
female.
Everyone knows that
humans are pregnant for
nine months, but what
about the mammals
illustrated here? You might
be surprised...
Dolphin (Family: Delphinidae) Lion (Family: Felidae)
Rhinoceros (Family: Rhinocerotidae) Rabbit (Family: Leporidae)
Mouse (Family: Muridae) Elephant (Family: Elephantidae)
